Embracing Autism: Completely Incomplete

How often do you think about life before Autism? Have you ever made a point of embracing Autism and the positive it's brought to you life?

Embracing Autism: I never knew what I was missing

Thinking back to life before Autism, there are definitely some things that I miss.  Before having my son, I was an aircraft mechanic in the Air Force.  There was always the potential for travel, excitement, and adventure…  I had a decent income, which meant I could do all kinds of fun stuff.  Several awards and acknowledgement for my achievements found their way to my shelves, which I loved.  I also didn’t realize how much I was depending on my own strength or how much I was letting my head swell.  I began to sense it and prayerfully decided to separate from the military when I had my son.

If You Could Heal Autism…

If you could heal autism, Would You Want to Heal Your Child’s Autism?

One of my most treasured friends and I were sitting on our back porch, soaking up the warm Hawai’i weather and watching our kids play when this topic came up. She and I were admiring his quirkiness and amazing abilities.  She told me that he was one of the neatest little people she had ever met, and I emphatically agreed.  At the time, he was still struggling quite badly with Echolalia, but he never struggled to put a grin on your face!  My friend paused and essentially asked, “If you could heal his Autism, just wave a wand, would you?”

10 Things I wish I knew as New Special Needs Mom

When the diagnosis comes, and your world changes…

I’ve been there too as a new special needs mom.  Even though I had a sense of certainty that my son would have Autism, when he was born I allowed a little part of myself to hope that I was just overthinking things. Nagging little red flags that made me wonder continued to be dismissed.  However, the feeling thoroughly twisting my insides never dissipated.  Many google searches later, when my son was 13 months old, I called my mom.
