Staying grateful is key in wiring your brain for positivity.  If a gratitude journal is going to end up as just another thing on your never-ending to-do list, try keeping a more simple journal page (like the free one below) to keep around to fill out only when you are feeling the pinch of stress and fatigue.  Think bullet journal style.

Yoga for self-care

Yoga is great for self-care

If you’re not sure about what you could add to a simple self-care routine, yoga is a great choice.  It’s even something your kids can do with you!  It’s actually not that hard to get yourself into either.  Even while being easy on the body, it has benefits both physically and mentally.

Or you just can’t do many exercises because of some injuries, you may want to consider trying it.  Even if you can do other exercises, yoga has self-care benefits for all, including pain relief and memory enhancement!  Check out this infographic and post from Dr. Axe on the brain benefits of yoga.

Take a walk – 15 Days of Easy Self Care

Go for a walk!

Getting outside for a walk is extremely helpful as far as self-care goes.  It lowers your stress levels, gets you some fresh air, and helps your overall health in a ridiculous amount of ways!

If you can get out alone, great!  If not, bring the kids in a stroller, or walk circles around the playground while your older children play.  It’s pretty easy to keep an eye on them this way and it’s completely free.  There aren’t many good reasons not to try to make this a part of your day.

Play a game – Easy self care for moms

Play a game (alone or with others!)

Ok, now don’t get obsessive about it or ignore your family if you choose the electronic game route… if it’s that much of a favorite,  work instead on setting boundaries as an act of self-care.  But seriously though, I used to live by the mindset of, “I don’t have time to play games.”  Play is good for us though!  You can find lots of great ideas over here.

First, playing games with your kids (hello feel-good hormones!) is a great way to bond and share some good memories.  You can play board games or even just play 10 minutes of catch out back.  This is a favorite of mine!  I think these types of activities will always trump digital games as far as self-care goes.  However, sometimes,  you just need something quick and portable.

Staying Hydrated: Easy Self-Care for Special Needs Moms

Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water

Staying hydrated is tough for some people!  If you struggle with it, try adding fruit or stevia based flavor additives.  I’d steer clear of a ton of sugar and any artificial sweeteners.  I love water (although I didn’t always), but when my love affair wanes a bit and I need a change I add Stur to my water.  It’s just enough flavor to change things up, but not enough fruit to get my fruit allergies going.
