Christmas bible verse game your kids will love

Limited time Christmas Bible game Freebie

In keeping with my unofficial theme this month, keeping Christ at the center of Christmas, I’m sharing something to help you do just that! I’ve made a Christmas Bible Game and I’m offering it as a limited time subscriber freebie this week.  It’s a verse memorization game using verses from the nativity story.  There are also coloring pages, pictures, and verse cards.

Previously, in Applied Behavioral Analysis, my son needed to memorize some characters in a story.  Each character’s name and characteristics were meant to help he and I identify what was going on with him in the moment, in a way we both understood.  He and his ABA provider memorized all these things through scavenger hunts.  For each character, he found he had to name them.  Then, in subsequent rounds, he would have to name what their struggle was, and finally, they got down to recalling coping strategies.   It was brilliant!  He learned so much, so fast!  I thought this was a perfect method to apply to scripture memorization.

Christmas: Why we focus more on valuable experiences

Gifting experiences over “stuff” for Christmas

Luckily I’m starting to see a trend more and more of focusing on experiences when gift giving rather than just wrapping as many boxes as possible.  A couple weeks ago I wrote about how hard it was, working in retail, to watch people drive themselves into debt to give gifts I totally still feel that way but I’m encouraged when I see people making different choices. Seeing thoughtfulness over how we spend, pushing back against the consumption of resources, is key.  This post is more about what we’re choosing to buy.

This post isn’t especially special needs related, but still something I think is important!  Changing our perspective on Christmas and gift giving can be such a huge gift to our children.  If you haven’t jumped onto this recent way of thinking, it may be worth investigating!

Why celebrating Santa Claus may be a huge mistake

Celebrating Christmas with Santa Claus? You may be making a mistake without realizing it. Here are the 3 main reasons why we don't, and what we do instead. #christmas #santaclaus #momlife #christianmom

Do you do the Santa Claus thing?

I’m about to get a ton of unsubscribes and hate mail for this one, I’m almost sure of it… but I am so strongly against Santa Claus.  My mom sheds a tear or two at this and thinks it’s excessive.  I know you too are probably thinking, “WTHeck?Who hates Santa Claus?!”  Stick with me on this because I’ve got 3 good reasons why we don’t celebrate our Christmas with Santa Claus.  I’m going to make my case here, share our alternatives, and how we prevent any problems that arise as a result.

(Please also know that while I think this is best everyone, I am specifically talking to my family in Christ)
