Homeschool Routines, Rules, and Planner

Have you got homeschool routines going?

Having homeschool routines makes life a lot easier for everyone.  Thing is, it gets tricky when you’re adding so much that everyone is overwhelmed.  When you do it this way, you can’t have everything predictably scheduled.  I’ve mentioned before that’s one of the reasons I like meal planning, and homeschool routines are no different.

I’m a Dave Ramsey girl, and he’s actually the reason I got into this blog.  Or at least he was the one that gave me the courage to follow through.  His name is still a bit of a curse word in our house, but I sure do love him and all his little sayings.

One of my favorites is, “To be unclear is to be unkind.”  Now I can’t recall whether that was his own saying or a borrowed one, but either way, it’s perfect for homeschooling (even more so when dealing with special needs)!

How autism affects siblings & 9 ways to offer support

Wondering how autism affects siblings?

You’re not alone.  How autism affects siblings and their relationship is a common curiosity.  After “K’s” diagnosis, it was one of the things I thought about most often.  I can’t tell you how many google searches I poured over.  A few years later,  I chose to write my sociology research paper on the effect of Autism on Neurotypical Siblings (NTs).

How very few research papers I found on the topic back then shocked and saddened me.  Most of what I did find had more to do with the autism siblings’ risk of developing the disorder themselves. Fortunately, there’s suddenly a flourishing body of research, which will hopefully continue to grow.  So, if you’re curious about the outcomes of autism sibling relationships and ways to help, I’ve got some information to help you.

The importance of developing SMART fitness goals

Do you set “Smart” fitness goals?

Does this sound like you?  “I’m going to lose weight this year… I need to get in shape.”  How does it work out?  That’s been me about 90% of the times I’ve tried losing weight.  Setting SMART fitness goals has been the one thing that has brought me success.

I hate anything that seems like it may be mentally taxing without any joy in return.  The ADHD in me hits a mental fatigue wall fast – as in just thinking about it.  Here’s the thing, every time I make a legit plan and keep track, I find so much more success.  It’s not so bad as you may think, and as you see yourself hitting goals, it becomes so rewarding, that you get that hit of joy with every day you track.
